THE SPEAKERS

 

FRANK. E. WALWYN
WeirFoulds LLP, Toronto, Canada

Frank is a partner and a member of the firm's Management Committee. Frank's practice is general litigation, with a focus on complex commercial litigation and estate litigation. He was part of the team of counsel representing WestJet in its recent litigation with Air Canada, and played an integral role in the motion which resulted in the first published case discussing and applying the Guidelines for the Discovery of Electronic Documents in Ontario: Air Canada v. WestJet Airlines Ltd. (2006), 267 D.L.R. (4th) 483 (Ont. S.C.J.). Frank deals with document retention and e-discovery issues in his practice on a regular basis, and is a frequent speaker on the topic.

Frank is a member of the Bars of Ontario and St. Kitts and Nevis and is frequently consulted and appears as counsel on complex commercial litigation matters in the Caribbean. Frank has provided legal advice and assistance to a team of forensic investigators retained by the Ministry of the Attorney General of Trinidad and Tobago to assist the Special Anti-Corruption Investigation Bureau in investigations into certain contracts entered into by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago.

Frank is President of the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers and is a member of the Equity Advisory Group, which assists the Equity and Aboriginal Issues Committee of The Law Society of Upper Canada in the development of policy options for the promotion of equity and diversity in the legal profession. Frank speaks regularly to diverse groups on equity and access issues in the legal profession.

Frank is also a frequent contributor and speaker on litigation and advocacy issues in continuing legal education programs, including those offered by the Ontario Bar Association and The Advocates' Society. He is a contributing editor of Credit and Banking Litigation, a Journal devoted to examining litigation issues of credit and banking practice.
