Keith Tuomi engages in a broad
spectrum of corporate/capital markets & lending work for
Scotiabank, (
Canada
’s most international bank), featuring an international
component across all four of its business lines:
International Banking, Scotia Capital, the Canadian Bank and
Global Transaction Banking. Practice includes corporate,
commercial and banking work of a transactional nature. Tasks
include preparing structured finance loan agreements and
other corporate and commercial documentation, participating
in bondholders’ meetings for offshore Scotia trust
subsidiaries, rendering opinions on bills of exchange,
letters of credit and other trade finance matters and
submitting applications for international banking
organizations as well as liaising on international legal
matters impacting upon Scotiabank – with a focus on Latin
American, Caribbean, Pacific Rim and Middle Eastern regions.
Mr. Tuomi has
published numerous legal articles/participated as a
speaker/chaired panels on a number of topics for the
Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of Upper Canada,
Infonex, Insight, the Professional Development Program of
Osgoode Hall Law School and Federated Press, including
international banking and lending, trade finance, banking
secrecy law, the Canada-US FTA, legal developments in the
“BRIC” countries and role of in-house counsel.
Mr. Tuomi was
called to the Ontario Bar in 1985 and since 1989 has been
practising law with Scotiabank in
Toronto
. Mr. Tuomi taught as a sessional lecturer at the Schulich
School of Business from 1989 to 1991. He earned his
undergraduate degree in economics from the University of
Ottawa in 1979 as well as his Masters degree in economics
from the London School of Economics in 1980 and his law
degree from the University of Toronto law school in 1983.
